Importance of satellites

A satellite is a tall tower that can be used to send and receive radio waves.

Satellites can be divided into many types according to their uses, including:

1 Commuication satellites used in:

*Television, radio, and telephone broadcasting to and from any location on the Earth's surface.
*Determining location using the GPS system
*Seeing places from space using Google Earth on the *Internet.

2 Astronomical satellites (large telescopes floating in space) are used in:

*Accurate space photography.

3 Remote sensing satellites are used in it:

*Studying and monitoring migratory birds.
*Identifying mineral resources and their distribution.
*Monitoring agricultural crops to protect them from weather hazards.
*Studying the formation of hurricanes.

4 Reconnaissance and spy satellites are used in:

* Providing the information needed by political and military leaders for decision-making and warfare.

5 Meteorological satellites are used in:

*Taking photographs of the atmosphere from an altitude of 35,000 km above the Earth's surface to determine weather patterns.
*Tracking hurricanes and their direction.
*Monitoring weather conditions such as air quality, ice cover, and cloud cover

Satellite chips

Space contains millions of rocks, some of which pose a danger to planet Earth, and may cause the destruction of cities and the killing of thousands of people. Therefore, some scientists have become interested in monitoring rocks that may pose a danger to Earth to predict their possible collisions. Some scientists in one of NASA research centers create satellite chips.

Satellite chip: Small satellite models smaller than credit cards are used to track and monitor asteroids.

Its Components:
The satellite chip consists of a copper substrate on which the circuit is etched, then the following is added:
- A communication chip similar to the one found in phones.
- Solar cells to provide power in space.
- An antenna to send signals to Earth to be received by a smartphone.

Launching it:
This is done using the Space Cube, a device equipped with springs that releases the satellite chips by spreading them out in groups.

When an asteroid is detected approaching dangerously,The Space Cube is launched to intercept this asteroid. The Space Cube releases a cloud of satellite chips in groups of 130 chips, which are spread around the asteroid like confetti and move with it as it orbits the sun.

When the asteroid moves away or is deflected away due to the gravity of the moon or Earth,Some of these chips fail or are deflected away from the asteroid, while the rest remain functional, so the losses are acceptable.

satellite chips are inexpensive, and many of them can be launched at once to monitor asteroids
